Our Mandate#

The Facility for Data Analysis and Modeling (FDAM) is funded by the Canadian Space Agency, with a mandate to develop computer models that facilitate meeting the science objectives of the Canadian Geospace Monitoring Program (www.cgsm.ca). CGSM is central to understanding the exogenic contribution to terrestrial climate change, particularly during rapid changes to the magnetic environments of the Sun and Earth.

The overarching scientific goal of CGSM is to understand the transport of mass and energy across multiple scales throughout the entire solar-terrestrial system. Within CGSM, the FDAM project provides access to scientific tools that describe fundamental processes controlling convection, magnetotail instabilities, auroral particle acceleration, and the energization, transport, and loss of magnetospheric particles.

As well as supporting CGSM, FDAM has a mandate to work with government partners that have responsibility for developing space weather prediction and empirical space environment models that can be utilized by the Canadian space industry.
